Academic CV writing

An academic CV obeys rules a commercial resume would break on every line. There is no page limit, nothing is omitted, everything is dated, and the publication list is the document — not an appendix to it. A search committee reads the publications first, the funding second, and the teaching record only once both have passed. Getting the order wrong is read as not knowing the field.

What you receive

The handover

Finished files

Production-ready output in the format your printer, platform or workshop actually needs — press PDF, editable source, CAD file, font binary or deck, as the work requires.

Editable sources

The working files, not just the export, so your team can change the work later without coming back to us.

Full rights

Copyright transfers to you on final payment. Nothing we make for you is resold or reused elsewhere.

Two revision rounds

Included in the quoted price. Corrections are logged against the draft rather than argued over on a call.

How it works

Five steps, and you approve the first three

01 · Brief

You tell us what the finished thing has to do, and send whatever material you already have.

02 · Scope & price

A written scope, a fixed figure and a delivery date, usually within one working day.

03 · Structure

You sign off the architecture before production starts, so nothing large is built on a wrong assumption.

04 · Production

Work arrives in stages as it finishes, not all at the end, with two revision rounds included.

05 · Handover

Files, sources and rights in your hands, and the invoice closed.

In detail

Academic CV writing — how we produce it

We begin from your existing CV, your publication record and the advertisement you are applying to. Most academic CVs we receive are complete but badly ordered — the strongest work buried at position fourteen in an undifferentiated list.

Formatting is not cosmetic in this field. A committee that reads Vancouver style all day notices APA immediately, and a misformatted reference list suggests carelessness with the literature itself. We format to your discipline and check every entry.

Fixed price agreed in writing before work begins. Ten to fifteen working days for the full package, two revision rounds. Editable files in Word and LaTeX where your field expects it.

What an academic CV must contain

Built to the conventions of your discipline

Publications in the right style

Ordered, numbered, complete, and formatted in your discipline’s convention — APA, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver or a society house style. Authorship position marked, and corresponding authorship flagged where it counts.

Funding as a section of its own

Grants held, amounts, funder, dates, and your role as principal or co-investigator. For most committees this is the second thing read and the strongest single signal.

Teaching, properly evidenced

Courses designed against courses delivered, levels, cohort sizes, supervision completed at masters and doctoral level, and evaluation outcomes where they are strong.

Service and esteem

Peer review, editorial boards, conference organisation, committee service, invited talks and keynotes. Junior candidates omit this section and lose real ground.

Discipline order, not a template

Sciences lead with publications and funding; humanities often lead with the monograph and teaching. We write to your field’s convention, not a generic academic layout.

No page limit, but no padding

An academic CV runs as long as the record justifies and not one line longer. Inflating a thin record is visible immediately to anyone who reads these professionally.

Academic commissions usually also take the research statement, teaching statement and cover letter, since most faculty applications require all four and they must agree with one another.

What you receive

The academic application package

  • Full academic CV, formatted to your discipline’s convention
  • Publication list with authorship position and metrics where appropriate
  • A two-page research statement for the position applied to
  • A teaching statement and, where required, a diversity statement
  • Application cover letter written to the specific department
  • A short-form CV for grant applications with strict page limits

Ten to fifteen working days for the full package, two revision rounds. Reference formatting is checked against the target style guide line by line.

Questions we are asked

Frequently asked

How long should an academic CV be?

As long as the record justifies. Fifteen pages is normal for a senior academic; two pages suggests an early-career researcher regardless of actual standing.

Which citation style should I use?

Your discipline’s. We format to APA, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver or a society house style, and we check every entry against the guide.

Do you write the research statement too?

Yes, and it is included in the full package. It must agree with the CV, so writing them separately is a false economy.

Can you produce a LaTeX version?

Yes, where your field expects it — physics, mathematics and much of computer science generally do.

Do you handle short-form grant CVs?

Yes. Funders impose strict page limits, and cutting a fifteen-page CV to two without losing the strongest evidence is a specific skill.

Questions

Before you commission

How much does thesis to book conversion cost?

Prices are fixed in writing before work begins. Scope, language count and turnaround move the figure; volume across a programme brings it down. Send the brief and you have a number within a working day.

How long does it take?

Most single deliverables run three to fourteen weeks depending on length and complexity. Programmes are staged so early parts reach you while later parts are still in production. You get a date with the quote.

Who does the work?

A specialist from our thesis to book team, with an editor and a production person on the same project. Everyone is bound by the same confidentiality terms.

Do I own the result?

Yes. Full copyright transfer, editable sources and production-ready files on final payment. Nothing is resold or reused.

Can it be produced in other languages?

Yes — any of a hundred-plus languages, typeset in the same studio so layout and page numbers match across editions.

Do you work with clients outside India?

Yes. Publishers, institutions and founders in the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Australia and Japan. Work is delivered by email and shared drive and quoted in US dollars.

What it costs

Published prices, and the LinkedIn profile is free

Most resume services will not quote until you have sent your document and had a conversation. Content Factory publishes the range: ₹2,500 to ₹10,000, decided by your profession and the seniority of the role you are applying for — a graduate resume sits at the bottom of that range and a chief executive package at the top. The figure is fixed in writing before any work starts.

The LinkedIn profile rewrite is included at no charge with every resume. Most services charge separately for it, which makes no sense — a recruiter reads the resume and the profile within minutes of each other, and any disagreement between the two counts against you. Content Factory writes both from one agreed position so they never contradict.

Where exactly you fall in the range depends on your profession and the level you are targeting, not on how long the document is. Send the resume you have now and you will have the figure the same working day — and if it needs nothing, we will tell you that instead.
