NCEA (New Zealand) textbook writing services

Writing for NCEA (New Zealand) means writing to the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA achievement standards. The assessment shapes the book as much as the content does: achievement standards are graded achieved, merit and excellence, so the material has to teach the step up to each level explicitly. And there is one thing that catches publishers repeatedly — NCEA and the curriculum were both refreshed recently, and Te Reo Māori and mātauranga Māori content is now expected rather than optional. We build the coverage map first, you approve it, and only then does drafting begin.

What you receive

The handover

Finished files

Production-ready output in the format your printer, platform or workshop actually needs — press PDF, editable source, CAD file, font binary or deck, as the work requires.

Editable sources

The working files, not just the export, so your team can change the work later without coming back to us.

Full rights

Copyright transfers to you on final payment. Nothing we make for you is resold or reused elsewhere.

Two revision rounds

Included in the quoted price. Corrections are logged against the draft rather than argued over on a call.

How it works

Five steps, and you approve the first three

01 · Brief

You tell us what the finished thing has to do, and send whatever material you already have.

02 · Scope & price

A written scope, a fixed figure and a delivery date, usually within one working day.

03 · Structure

You sign off the architecture before production starts, so nothing large is built on a wrong assumption.

04 · Production

Work arrives in stages as it finishes, not all at the end, with two revision rounds included.

05 · Handover

Files, sources and rights in your hands, and the invoice closed.

In detail

Board-specific writing — how we produce it

We start from the specification document, not from an existing textbook. A coverage map is built first — every outcome in the specification against the page that will teach it — and you approve that map before a chapter is drafted. It is also what a reviewer or an inspector asks for.

Typical extent is 180 to 320 pages with 40 to 120 figures. A single title runs eight to fourteen weeks; a multi-grade programme runs six to nine months, staged by grade block so the first books are in your hands while later grades are still in draft.

Priced in US dollars or your currency and fixed in writing before work starts. Two revision rounds are included. On final payment you own the copyright, the editable sources and the press-ready files.

What writing for NCEA (New Zealand) involves

Written to the specification, mapped before it is drafted

The specification, not a rival textbook

We work from the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA achievement standards. Rewriting an existing book is how errors and outdated content propagate, and it is a copyright problem besides.

The assessment pattern

Achievement standards are graded achieved, merit and excellence, so the material has to teach the step up to each level explicitly. End-of-chapter apparatus is written to that, not to a generic exercise format.

The mistake to avoid

NCEA and the curriculum were both refreshed recently, and Te Reo Māori and mātauranga Māori content is now expected rather than optional. We confirm the current version in writing before starting.

A coverage map you approve

Every outcome in the specification against the page that teaches it, delivered with the manuscript. It is what a reviewer, an inspector or an adoption panel asks for first.

Figures and question banks

Diagrams specified for the illustrator, plus question banks, model papers, marking schemes and teacher guides written to the same pattern.

Editions

English, with Te Reo Māori terminology and increasingly full editions. Set with matched pagination so one classroom can run both.

Typically commissioned by New Zealand schools and publishers. A single title runs eight to fourteen weeks; a multi-grade programme is staged by grade block. Two revision rounds are in the price, and you own everything on final payment.

Questions we are asked

Frequently asked

Do you write from the NCEA (New Zealand) specification itself?

Yes. We work from the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA achievement standards and deliver a coverage map, so each outcome can be traced to a page.

How do you handle the assessment pattern?

Achievement standards are graded achieved, merit and excellence, so the material has to teach the step up to each level explicitly. The end-of-chapter work is written to that.

What is the most common error you see?

NCEA and the curriculum were both refreshed recently, and Te Reo Māori and mātauranga Māori content is now expected rather than optional.

Which editions can you produce?

English, with Te Reo Māori terminology and increasingly full editions, written as originals rather than translated.

How long does a title take?

Eight to fourteen weeks for a single title, with the chapter plan approved in the first fortnight and chapters delivered in blocks.

Questions

Before you commission

How much does textbook writing services cost?

Prices are fixed in writing before work begins. Scope, language count and turnaround move the figure; volume across a programme brings it down. Send the brief and you have a number within a working day.

How long does it take?

Most single deliverables run three to fourteen weeks depending on length and complexity. Programmes are staged so early parts reach you while later parts are still in production. You get a date with the quote.

Who does the work?

A specialist from our school & college course books team, with an editor and a production person on the same project. Everyone is bound by the same confidentiality terms.

Do I own the result?

Yes. Full copyright transfer, editable sources and production-ready files on final payment. Nothing is resold or reused.

Can it be produced in other languages?

Yes — any of a hundred-plus languages, typeset in the same studio so layout and page numbers match across editions.

Do you work with clients outside India?

Yes. Publishers, institutions and founders in the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Australia and Japan. Work is delivered by email and shared drive and quoted in US dollars.
