Investment banking résumés in Mumbai: the deal sheet is the document

A Mumbai banking résumé is read for a single thing first: what you have actually worked on. Everything else — the education, the certifications, the modelling skills — is assumed or verified later. The deal sheet is the document, and a résumé without one is not competitive at any level above analyst.

What separates candidates is precision about role. “Worked on a 2,000 crore transaction” tells a reader nothing. Whether you built the model, ran the diligence, drafted the memo or sat in the room are four different claims, and everyone senior knows the difference.

Constructing the deal sheet

One line per transaction, with five elements in a consistent order:

  • Transaction type — M&A buy-side, sell-side, IPO, QIP, private placement, debt syndication
  • Sector and, where public, the parties
  • Deal value, and the currency
  • Your specific role — modelling, diligence, drafting, execution, client coverage
  • Outcome — completed, withdrawn, or in progress

Withdrawn deals count and should be included. Everyone in the market has them, and a sheet showing only completions looks curated rather than complete.

Live and confidential transactions

Describe by sector, size band and your role, without naming parties. “Sell-side mandate, mid-market pharmaceutical, 800 to 1,200 crore, led diligence coordination” is entirely normal and no Mumbai banking recruiter will think twice about it.

What is not acceptable is naming an unannounced deal. It ends the conversation and travels quickly in a market this connected.

Coverage against product

State which you are. A coverage banker with sector relationships and a product specialist in ECM or leveraged finance are hired through different processes for different mandates, and a résumé that reads as both reads as neither.

If you have moved between them, say so with the dates. That is a strength if stated and a confusion if left implicit.

The modelling and technical line

Brief and near the end. Comps, DCF, LBO, merger models, three-statement builds — plus Bloomberg, Capital IQ and whatever else you actually use daily.

CFA and CA progress with the honest status. Level II cleared is a real credential; implying the charter without it is a background-check failure waiting to happen.

How Content Factory writes it

Content Factory is a writing studio in Chennai, and résumés are one of the things we produce. Mumbai banking clients usually take the deal sheet as a separate document, because that is the file a recruiter attaches when advocating for you internally.

Every commission begins with your current document and two or three advertisements you are genuinely targeting. We interview briefly for the numbers behind each claim, because most candidates describe substantial work in language that makes it sound small.

The document is rebuilt single-column with standard headings and month-and-year dates, so applicant tracking systems parse it cleanly, and the wording is aligned to those advertisements without inventing experience you do not have. We will not promise an ATS score — there is no published scoring model and any number quoted to you is invented.

Mumbai clients receive editable Word and PDF within three to five working days, with one revision round. The price is fixed in writing before work begins and the work is yours outright.
