Insurance and actuarial résumés in Mumbai: exams, lines and reserves
Actuarial hiring runs on exam progress before anything else, and the number of papers cleared is a hard filter rather than a preference. An actuarial résumé that buries exam status on page two has failed at the first screen, whatever the work experience says.
After that the questions narrow quickly: which line of business, pricing or reserving or capital, and under which regulatory regime. Mumbai has enough insurance employers that a mismatch on any of those three ends the application.
Exam status, stated exactly
Papers cleared with the body and the dates, papers currently attempted, and expected sitting. Whether that is IAI, IFoA or SOA matters, because employers weight them differently and recognition is not automatic.
Honesty here is not optional. Exam records are verifiable directly with the institute, and an overstatement is discovered rather than suspected.
Line of business and function
These two axes define the role more than the title does:
- Line — life, general, health, reinsurance, or a specific product family
- Function — pricing, reserving, valuation, capital modelling, ALM, experience analysis
- Regime — IRDAI reporting, IFRS 17, Solvency II if you have worked offshore
- Scale — portfolio size, policy count, reserves under review
A reserving actuary in general insurance is not interchangeable with a pricing actuary in life, and hiring managers screen on the combination immediately.
Work described as deliverables
Actuarial work produces specific artefacts, and naming them is stronger than describing activity. Reserve reviews completed, pricing models built and signed off, experience studies delivered, IFRS 17 transition work, statutory valuations, appointed actuary support.
Attach the scale where you can: portfolio value, number of products, whether the work was signed off externally.
Tools and modelling platforms
Prophet, ResQ, Igloo, Moses, R, Python, SQL, VBA — plus the reserving and capital platforms your employer used. Insurance recruiters in Mumbai search these directly.
Distinguish building from running. Having built a model in Prophet is a different claim from having operated one someone else built, and interviewers separate the two in the first technical conversation.
How Content Factory writes it
Content Factory is a writing studio in Chennai, and résumés are one of the things we produce. Actuarial and insurance documents are among the most factual we write, which makes precision about exams, lines and regime the whole job.
Every commission begins with your current document and two or three advertisements you are genuinely targeting. We interview briefly for the numbers behind each claim, because most candidates describe substantial work in language that makes it sound small.
The document is rebuilt single-column with standard headings and month-and-year dates, so applicant tracking systems parse it cleanly, and the wording is aligned to those advertisements without inventing experience you do not have. We will not promise an ATS score — there is no published scoring model and any number quoted to you is invented.
Mumbai clients receive editable Word and PDF within three to five working days, with one revision round. The price is fixed in writing before work begins and the work is yours outright.
