CA, CFA, CS: how to present a qualification in progress on a Mumbai resume

Mumbai finance hiring is full of candidates part-way through a qualification: CA Inter cleared with articleship done, CFA Level II passed, CS Executive complete, CMA in progress. All of these are real signals, and all of them are routinely written in ways that either undersell or overclaim.

The rule is simple. State exactly where you are, with the date, and never imply more.

The wording that works

“CA — Intermediate cleared (Nov 2023), articleship completed, Final attempt scheduled May 2027”. Long, specific, and it answers every question a recruiter had.

“CA (pursuing)” tells them nothing and invites the assumption that you are at the earliest stage. “CA” alone when you are not qualified is a misrepresentation that ends applications at verification.

Articleship is experience, not education

Three years of articleship at a firm is professional experience and belongs in the work section with what you actually did — audits, the sectors, the clients by type, the scale. Most CA-track candidates bury it under education as though it were a course.

CFA levels, precisely

Level I, II or III passed, with the year, and candidacy status if current. The charter requires work experience as well as the examinations, so “CFA Charterholder” before that is complete is checked and found.

A gap for examinations is not a gap

Time spent studying full-time for a professional examination is a stated reason, not an unexplained absence. One line in the chronology and it stops being a question.

Attempts, and whether to mention them

You are not obliged to state how many attempts a paper took, and it is not customary. What matters is where you are now and when the next attempt is. Be ready for the question in an interview, honestly and briefly.

What the qualification does not replace

A Mumbai finance recruiter still wants the five numbers — book size, deal value, P&L, client count, team. The qualification gets you through the first filter; the numbers get you the interview.

How Content Factory writes it

Content Factory writes the qualification line precisely, with the stage, the date and the next step, because that single line decides whether a recruiter shortlists or assumes the worst.

We move articleship into the work section where it belongs and write it as professional experience with scale and sector, which most candidates never do.
