Six employers in eight years: writing a job-hopping record in Hyderabad
Hyderabad’s technology market moved fast between 2021 and 2024, and a great many capable people came out of it with five or six employers in under a decade. The work was real; the record looks unstable.
Recruiters here have seen enough of these to be reasonable about it, but only when the résumé addresses it. Left unexplained, a pattern of eighteen-month tenures raises the one question every hiring manager has to answer for their own manager: will this person stay?
Group what can be grouped
Contract and consulting positions belong under one heading with the agency or your own practice named, and the clients as projects beneath. That converts five entries into one, honestly.
Acquisitions and rebrands should be shown as one continuous period with the change noted — “Company A, acquired by Company B in 2023” — rather than as two jobs.
Give the reason where it is good
A short reason in brackets removes the question. “Role ended when the India team was closed”, “left following acquisition”, “fixed-term project”, “relocated for family”.
Redundancy and restructuring are not weaknesses and Hyderabad saw a great deal of both. Stating it is far stronger than leaving a nineteen-month tenure unexplained.
Show progression across the moves
If each change was upward — scope, level, complexity — make that visible. A candidate who moved five times and grew each time is ambitious; one who moved five times laterally looks restless.
Where the moves were lateral, find the through-line: a specialism you deepened, a domain you stayed in, a skill that compounded. That narrative does the reassuring work.
Address it in the summary
One sentence about what you are looking for now and why it is different. “Looking for a longer engagement where I can own a platform through more than one release cycle” answers the question directly.
And be prepared for it in interview, because it will be asked. A written two-sentence answer prepared in advance is where confident candidates avoid stumbling.
