Fifty and applying in Delhi: writing against an assumption
A candidate in their fifties applying in Delhi is read against two unspoken assumptions: that they will be expensive, and that they will be slower to adapt. Neither is usually true and both have to be addressed by the document, because nobody will raise them out loud.
What works is not concealing the experience — it is presenting thirty years as depth deliberately deployed rather than as accumulated length.
Compress the early record
Everything beyond fifteen years becomes one line: “Earlier roles at [A], [B] and [C], 1996 to 2009, in [function]”. This removes half a page and eliminates the impression of an unending chronology.
It also moves the strongest recent work onto the first page, which is the only page that will be read.
Signal currency deliberately
The adaptability assumption is answered with evidence, not assertion. A recent certification, a current system you use daily, a transformation you led in the last three years, a tool your younger colleagues use that you also use.
One or two specifics do this. A statement that you are “a quick learner and open to new technologies” does the opposite, because it reads as protesting.
Address the cost question obliquely
You cannot write about salary, but you can write about value at scale — what you have prevented, what you have fixed, what a mistake in your area costs when someone junior makes it.
Where you are genuinely flexible on compensation for the right role, the summary can say “open on structure for the right mandate”. It is a signal the reader is looking for.
The advisory and fractional route
Delhi has a real market for advisory, non-executive and fractional senior roles — particularly in consulting, policy and family businesses looking to professionalise.
That needs a different document: a one-page profile arguing a specific expertise, not a full career résumé. Often it is the better route, and it is rarely the one candidates try first.
How Content Factory writes it
Content Factory is a writing studio in Chennai, and résumés are one of the things we produce. Senior records mostly need compression and two currency signals, which is a smaller change than most candidates expect.
Every commission begins with your current document and two or three advertisements you are genuinely targeting. We interview briefly for the numbers behind each claim, because most candidates describe substantial work in language that makes it sound small.
The document is rebuilt single-column with standard headings and month-and-year dates, so applicant tracking systems parse it cleanly, and the wording is aligned to those advertisements without inventing experience you do not have. We will not promise an ATS score — there is no published scoring model and any number quoted to you is invented.
Delhi clients receive editable Word and PDF within three to five working days, with one revision round. The price is fixed in writing before work begins and the work is yours outright.
