What happens at documentation, and why the resume decides it

A Delhi offer is followed by background verification, and it is more thorough than most candidates expect. Dates, titles, salary, qualifications and occasionally reasons for leaving are checked against records and former employers.

A discrepancy at this stage costs an offer already made, which is the most expensive possible moment for it to surface. Everything on the resume should be written with that in view.

What is actually verified

  • Employment dates, from HR records rather than your account of them
  • Job title as recorded, not as used internally
  • Salary, where a payslip or Form 16 is requested
  • Degrees and certifications, against the university or issuing body
  • Address and identity documents
  • Occasionally the reason for leaving

Agencies do this mechanically and report discrepancies without interpreting them.

Title inflation is the commonest failure

You were called Team Lead internally; HR recorded Senior Engineer. Put the recorded title on the resume and add the functional one in a clause: “Senior Engineer (functioning as Team Lead, 12-person team)”.

That construction is accurate, survives verification and conveys more than either version alone.

Dates must match records to the month

Notice periods, gardening leave and gaps between resignation and last working day cause genuine mismatches. Use the recorded dates and explain any oddity in one clause rather than rounding to something tidier.

Salary claims

If you state CTC anywhere in the process, it will be checked against a payslip. Inflating it is the single most common cause of offers being withdrawn in Indian corporate hiring.

Qualifications in progress

State the stage precisely — cleared, appearing, enrolled — with the date. A qualification claimed as complete before it is fails at verification against the institute’s records.

Where an employer no longer exists

Startups that closed and firms that were acquired create real verification difficulties. Keep your appointment letter, relieving letter and payslips, and flag the situation to HR early rather than letting the agency report an unverifiable entry.

How Content Factory writes it

Content Factory writes nothing that cannot be documented, and where your internal and recorded titles differ we use the construction that is accurate and still conveys the scope.

We flag, before submission, anything in your history likely to cause a verification difficulty — a closed employer, a date mismatch, a qualification in progress — so it is disclosed rather than discovered.

This is unglamorous and it has saved clients offers. Fixed price agreed in writing before work begins.
