Notice period on a Delhi résumé: the detail that decides shortlists

Indian notice periods run to ninety days in many organisations, and a Delhi recruiter filling a role in six weeks treats that as a hard constraint. Candidates routinely omit it, hoping to discuss it later. Recruiters read the omission as ninety days and move on.

Stating it costs one line and puts you into the pile the recruiter can work with. Where it is long, stating what you can do about it is what actually rescues the application.

State it plainly, near the contact details

“Notice period: 90 days, negotiable to 45 with buyout”. Or “Available immediately”, or “serving notice, available from 1 November”.

One line, factual, no explanation needed. This is a scheduling fact rather than a negotiating position.

Where the notice is long

Say what flexibility exists, because there usually is some:

  • Whether your employer permits buyout, and at what cost
  • Unused leave that can offset part of the period
  • Whether a partial handover has been discussed
  • Any garden-leave provision

A candidate with ninety days who explains a realistic route to forty-five is considered. One with ninety days and silence is often not.

If you are already serving notice

This is a strong position and should be stated prominently, with the available-from date. It removes the single largest source of friction in Delhi hiring.

Do not overstate availability. Promising a joining date you cannot meet damages the relationship at exactly the point where you need it intact.

Immediate availability

If you are between roles, say “available immediately” and handle the gap separately, in the chronology, in one line. The availability is an asset; the gap is a separate and manageable fact.

Do not let the desire to hide a gap cost you the advantage of being able to start next week, which for many Delhi requisitions is the deciding factor.

How Content Factory writes it

Content Factory is a writing studio in Chennai, and résumés are one of the things we produce. It is a one-line change and one of the few on a résumé that reliably converts to more first calls.

Every commission begins with your current document and two or three advertisements you are genuinely targeting. We interview briefly for the numbers behind each claim, because most candidates describe substantial work in language that makes it sound small.

The document is rebuilt single-column with standard headings and month-and-year dates, so applicant tracking systems parse it cleanly, and the wording is aligned to those advertisements without inventing experience you do not have. We will not promise an ATS score — there is no published scoring model and any number quoted to you is invented.

Delhi clients receive editable Word and PDF within three to five working days, with one revision round. The price is fixed in writing before work begins and the work is yours outright.
