Applying to Bengaluru startups: the resume a founder actually reads

A Bengaluru founder hiring their twelfth employee is not running a structured process. They are reading resumes between investor calls, looking for one thing: will this person do the job without being managed into it.

That changes what a resume needs. Process credentials, certifications and large-company scope — the things that impress a corporate recruiter — carry much less weight than evidence of range and self-direction.

Range beats depth at early stage

A series-A company needs someone who will do three jobs for eighteen months. A resume showing narrow specialisation within a large organisation reads as someone who will ask whose job something is.

Show the breadth honestly: the time you also handled support, the month you did the hiring, the dashboard you built because nobody else would. In a corporate resume these are noise. Here they are the argument.

Speed, stated as time

Founders think in weeks. “Shipped the first version in six weeks with two engineers” is the kind of sentence that gets a reply, because it answers the question they actually have about pace.

Ambiguity tolerance, evidenced

Projects started without a brief, decisions taken without escalation, work done where the requirements were discovered rather than given. This is the hardest thing to assess in an interview and therefore the most valuable thing to evidence on paper.

Previous startup experience, framed properly

If you have worked at a startup that failed, say so with the stage and the reason. Bengaluru founders have all seen companies fail and read a stated failure as experience. A concealed one reads as a gap.

Equity, titles and scope inflate at small companies. A “VP Engineering” of a nine-person startup should state the headcount, because the honest version is more credible than the title alone.

One page, and no corporate padding

Cut the certifications nobody asked about, the objective statement and the process methodologies. A founder reading forty resumes rewards the one that respects their time.

How Content Factory writes it

Content Factory writes the startup variant deliberately differently. We interview for range and speed, and we include the work you did outside your job description — which most clients omit because it felt unofficial.

For candidates who have been at a startup that failed, we write that honestly with the stage and reason, because concealment reads worse to a founder than failure does.
